About Me

My name is Simone Pohl. I’m a multimedia designer with a background in Visual Communication Design, based in Calgary, Alberta. I spent most of my childhood at a local dance studio, and weekends skiing in the mountains. As much as I loved being active, I was always creating. I made endless videos on my school laptop… mockumentaries, music videos, and even full Hunger Games reenactments (which was just as ridiculous as it sounds). But, it made me happy in a way nothing else really did.

Between 2017 and 2024, I underwent four surgeries on my leg and hip, which significantly reshaped my life during that time. Losing dance, and struggling to ski the way I once could, was incredibly difficult. It was something I had to learn to navigate and redefine. During that time, I found myself creating more than ever. Drawing, filming, editing… it became an outlet I could rely on, and something that continued to bring me a sense of joy and purpose.

I went on to earn my Bachelor of Design from the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly ACAD), focusing on Graphic Design and Advertising. It was there that I found my way into animation. I realized I didn’t just want to design; I wanted to tell stories through motion. Video became a way for me to create work that feels more human, more emotional, and more meaningful.

As a neurodivergent creative, and as someone who has experienced physical limitations, my perspective shapes how I see and approach the world. I notice details, patterns, and emotional nuance in ways that deeply influence my work. I’m drawn to storytelling that feels honest, grounded, and rooted in real experience.

I encourage you to watch my ‘About Me’ video below for a more genuine introduction.
